Spotlight: Fix+

What is it?

The MAC Cosmetics website calls Fix+ "[a] lightweight mist of water packed with vitamins and minerals, infused with a blend of green tea, chamomile and cucumber to gently soothe and refresh the skin. Gives an instant boost of hydration while delivering a soft sheen to refresh and finish makeup."

In short, it's magic in a bottle. At the very end of your makeup application, mist an even layer over the entire face. Once the spray dries, you'll notice your makeup looks less powdery and more blended. It's true.

As a finishing spray, Fix+ is on the dewier end of sprays. If the dewy look just isn't for you, you can still use it. Try a translucent powder after your spray has set a bit - this will take any unwanted shine down.

How does it work?

Whether you're using Fix+ as a hydrating mist at the beginning of your application or as a finishing spray at the end, you'll notice your makeup will last longer than without.

I've posted the ingredients below and you may notice that the second ingredient is glycerin. Glycerin attracts water and makes the skins look and feel hydrated and soft. It's also a bonding agent, meaning products will stick and I mean really *stick.*

(Ever wonder why the Nivea Men's After Shave lotion is such a good primer? Glycerin.)

If you're interested in reading more about glycerin as an ingredient in cosmetics, I found this article really helpful!

Other ingredients like cucumber and chamomile make Fix+ super gentle and calming. If you have any skin irritations before your makeup application, try Fix+ as a prep spray. Also, caffeine in cosmetics has anti-inflammatory properties so hello healthy, glowing skin!

One downside is castor oil. Castor oil is used to increase the absorption of other cosmetic ingredients. That being said, some find castor oil to be irritating on the skin. But in small doses, this may not affect the majority of skin types. Of course, with any new product, it is best to spot test on a small patch of skin to determine if you will be allergic.

Ingredients: Water, Glycerin, Butylene Glycol, Cucumis Sativus (Cucumber) Fruit Extract, Chamomilla Recutita (Matricaria) Extract, Camellia Sinensis Leaf Extract, Tocopheryl Acetate, Caffeine, Panthenol, Arginine, PEG-40 Hydrogenated Castor Oil, PPG-26-Buteth-26, Fragrance, Disodium EDTA, Phenoxyethanol.

Why do I love it?

I love Fix+ as a setting spray. That being said, some say that Fix+ isn't a setting spray per se, but is actually a finishing spray. The difference is minimal but a finishing spray works to finish off the makeup application by smoothing any excess powder and making everything look blended but doesn't necessarily make your makeup last.

I agree with this to an extent but personally, I've found Fix+ not only keeps my makeup looking fresh all day but makes it last longer than any other setting spray I've tried!

I do get comments on my posts about how great my skin looks and I do owe a lot to Fix+! I love the dewy look so I use a generous amount after my entire makeup is done. I don't use Fix+ as a prep spray simply because I moisturize and use a primer before foundation. I've noticed that as a finishing spray, Fix+ blends everything and makes the skin appear flawless!

It's hard to explain just how beautiful your skin will look after using Fix+!

Why should you try it?

Do you ever have days where you look in the mirror and see nothing but dryness? Or sometimes worse, your makeup sliding or flaking off? Fix+ will solve all your problems!

I recently took a trip to MAC with my friend Dana and I gently urged (insisted...) that she try Fix+. This winter has been hard on everyone's skin and we were chatting about how to combat dryness in her everyday makeup routine. She's been using it for about a week now and has already noticed how great it works! Let Dana convince you!

"[My] makeup literally lasts until I wash my face. When I 'refresh' and spray hours into my day, my makeup looks newly applied again, too. [Fix+] makes even natural skin look more even and luminous. My skin feels moisturized and healthy using it, and I'm usually very sensitive! [It is] honestly my hands down fav primer/setting product and worth every penny. The fact I literally do not need to reapply, I figure I'm overall using less products on really long days and saving that way too!"

Thanks Dana - so glad you love it!
