Review: Clarisonic Mia2

The Clarisonic website advertises smoother, softer, healthier-looking skin while minimizing appearance of pores, fine lines and wrinkles, cleansing so thoroughly that skin care products absorb better and gentle enough to use 2X daily on all skin types.

I’ve been reluctant to jump on the Clarisonic bandwagon. I honestly didn’t believe the hype! I started using my Mia 2 every night at the end of December 2015 and now I do believe the hype. I didn’t realize how much makeup (mostly foundation) was left behind after using my Kirkland Daily Facial Towelettes.

I am a big proponent of removing every speck of makeup before going to bed so it was a shock to see how much foundation was left over on the brush head. The Clarisonic is designed to clean skin six times better than washing with your hands alone. I’ve found this to be true, even compared to exfoliating with hands alone. The brush heads oscillate at 300 movements per second (!!!) but I still find it gentle to use every night.

I do recommend using at night to remove any makeup, dirt, or impurities that stick to our skin from everyday life and so you’re not applying makeup over super clean skin with vulnerable pores. Plus when we sleep, our body temperature rises, opening our pores even more. This way your skin can regenerate with no dirt in it’s way! In addition, Clarisonic advertises that after use, skincare products are absorbed 61% better.

This is when I tone and apply an oil. This is when I wake up with the most baby soft skin ever!

The Clarisonic Mia 2 features two speeds and is rechargeable and waterproof (I use it in the shower when I leave a hair mask on!).

What’s included: Clarisonic Mia 2 Sensitive brush head Universal voltage pLink charger (magnetized to the bottom of the device) Travel case Sample size cleanser (acne cleanser, 30ml)

Features: Two speeds Two speeds to control how far left and right the brush head oscillate within the same amount of time.

One minute timer: The Mia 2 pauses slightly to indicate when it’s time to move to another part of the face. Timer is set to 10 seconds per cheek, 20 seconds for nose and chin, and 20 second for forehead.

Two year warranty: Covers manufacturing defects from everyday use.

My Results: Unfortunately I forgot to take a before picture but I was never too keen on photographing my naked skin. I have oily-normal skin with slight texture and discolouration and have been fortunate enough to not suffer from acne. Every once and a while, I will get some pretty nasty cystic pimples. These pimples are deep and painful and usually take way too long to heal. Plus, I do sadly admit, I’m a picker so I have a few dark spots from left over blemishes. After using the Clarisonic, even with popping and picking, my blemishes are not nearly as painful and take about half the time to heal.

I was hesitant to run the Clarisonic over my blemishes but the device is gentle enough to clean any acne-causing impurities without irritation. I’ve also found that any discoloured spots lighten over time. I’ve used lotions and serums designed to even out discolouration, but nothing has worked as well as the Clarisonic.

My skin is definitely smoother and I would even dare to say, radiant. I no longer worry about leaving the house without foundation on.

Which brings me to makeup application; the more you care for your skin, the better your makeup application will be. I have a blog post all about primers and I still recommend using a primer suited for you skin, just to keep your skin in the state the Clarisonic has helped it to be. With daily use, your skin will look and be healthier and your makeup application will be a breeze!

Here I’m wearing Anastasia Beverly Hills DipBrow in Soft Brown, MAC Cosmetics Haute & Naughty mascara, and Kat Von D Beauty Everlasting Liquid Lipstick in Lovesick… And that’s it!

If you are thinking of purchasing a Clarisonic, I recommend checking out www.clarisonic.ca. The website has a complete list of all devices and brush heads, sorted by skin concerns and needs.
