How To: Colour

I've been on a *huge* colour kick lately! I'm usually uninspired by bright colours and stick to neutral looks for everyday wear. Let's be honest, that gets boring. So I decided to look through my eye shadow palettes for anything that peaked my interest.

This is a great way to change up your routine. Take a look through your eye shadows for colours that you rarely or haven't used. For me, I opened my Anastasia Beverly Hills Artist Palette and the shade Phresh immediately caught my attention. It's a gorgeous, bright matte yellow. I've never done yellow before! That jump started by colour obsession, for real.

If you're thinking you can't do colour, this post is for you! I chose my base colour and used two complimentary shadows to blend it out without distracting from the base colour but keeping the look simple. I used the Anastasia Beverly Hills Artist Palette (Limited Edition) and the Too Faced x Nikkietutorials The Power of Makeup palette mainly but you can use any shadows you have in your collection!

For every eye look, I prime using MAC Prep + Prime 24-Hour Extended Eye Base (my favourite eye primer!) and set the entire eye with a shadow that matches my skin tone. I used a mix of the yellow and pink (the top two) shades from the Anastasia Beverly Hills Contour Kit. I did keep my lower lash line clean for each look but that is personal preference! You can either blend your base colour along the lower lash line or smoke out with a neutral shadow.

Yellow

Inspiration: Anastasia Beverly Hills Artist Palette shadow in Phresh

1. With the MAC 224 brush, I used Makeup Geek's shadow in Peach Smoothie through the crease, from inner to outer corners.

2. With the Sigma E35 brush, I deepened the crease with Too Faced x Nikkietutorials shadow in Painkiller (or any soft, neutral brown). I kept this colour a touch lower than Peach Smoothie.

3. Using the MAC 239 brush, I loaded up on Phresh from the Anastasia Artist Palette. Avoid any sweeping motions here and focus on packing the colour on with the flat side of the brush.

4. Using the product left on the Sigma E35, I blended the top of the yellow into the crease to create a seamless transition.

5. Add your liner and lashes of choice! I used Kat Von D Beauty's Tattoo Liner in Trooper for a thick winged liner and House of Lashes Iconic lashes.

Purple

Inspiration: Too Faced x Nikkietutorials The Power of Makeup palette shadow in Wham Bam

1. With the MAC 224 brush, I used Anastasia Beverly Hills' shadow in Dusty Rose through the crease, from inner to outer corners.

2. With the Sigma E35 brush, I deepened the crease with Anastasia's shadow in Punch Fuschia. I kept this colour a touch lower than Dusty Rose.

3. Using the MAC 239 brush damped with Fix+, I loaded up on Wham Bam from the Power of Makeup Palette. Avoid any sweeping motions here and focus on packing the colour on with the flat side of the brush.

4. Using the product left on the Sigma E35, I blended the top of the purple into the crease to create a seamless transition.

5. Add your liner and lashes of choice! I used Kat Von D Beauty's Tattoo Liner in Trooper for a thick winged liner and House of Lashes Noir Fairy lashes.

Blue

Inspiration: Too Faced x Nikkietutorials The Power of Makeup palette shadow in Mystic Hour

1. With the MAC 224 brush, I used Anastasia shadow in Blue Velvet (really softly, it's a deep blue that can be blended to a soft blue) through the crease, from inner to outer corners.

2. Using the MAC 239 brush dampened with Fix+, I loaded up on Mystic Hour from the Power of Makeup palette. Avoid any sweeping motions here and focus on packing the colour on with the flat side of the brush.

3. Using the product left on the MAC 224, I blended the top of the blue into the crease to create a seamless transition.

4. Using the MAC 217 brush, I blended MAC's shadow in Contrast just on the outer corner to deepen that area.

5. Add your liner and lashes of choice! I skipped the liner and added House of Lashes Iconic lashes.
